Our campus celebration of the inauguration of President Karim Ismaili begins tomorrow with a faculty symposium showcasing the innovation and commitment at the heart of Eastern’s academic mission as Connecticut’s public liberal arts university.

The day is organized around three panels, each exploring a key aspect of what makes Eastern the university that we are.

Session 1: The Teacher-Scholar (1:00-2:00pm)

This session showcases the work of Eastern faculty as active scholars and artists in their disciplines, which in turn informs the work that they do with Eastern students in their classrooms, labs, and field work.

Session 2: Global Thinking, Local Impact (2:00-3:00pm)

Eastern faculty engage in work that connects them and their students to a wide world of ideas, while also pursuing meaningful involvement in our own back yard.

Session 3: Liberal Arts and the Workforce (3:00-4:00pm)

At Eastern, we believe that education in the liberal arts tradition prepares students for career success at the same time that it gives them the foundation on which to build a life of meaning and purpose.

Each session promises a really rich sampling of the scholarly, creative, and pedagogical work of our excellent faculty. I hope you will be able to attend some or all of tomorrow’s programming, which gives us a chance to celebrate the academic mission of the university as we mark an important moment in the university’s history.
